Celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day with Service
January 15th is Martin Luther King Jr. Day. In honor of this holiday, the Willington Lakes Blog is sharing some ways to give service to others. It’s a great time to celebrate the freedoms we have in this country by giving back. We hope you enjoy your month here in Orangeburg, SC.
Make food for a neighbor. Do you know anyone who may need a lift in their spirits? Make them a sweet treat or even cook them dinner.
Donate used clothes. Visit Donation Town online to schedule a time for someone to pick up your used clothes. It’s a great way to get rid of clothes you no longer need and to serve someone at the same time.
Call up an old friend to talk. Is there a friend you haven’t talked to in awhile? Call them up to see how they’re doing and to reconnect.
Do yard work for a neighbor. Do you notice that someone may need help with their yard work in the neighborhood? Ask politely if you can serve them, but don’t be offended if they decline.
Teach something for free. Do you have a skill or talent that could benefit someone? It might be knowing a different language, playing an instrument, or sewing. Teach a younger family member or a friend that may need it.
Write a thank you note. Find a family member, coworker, or friend who may need a pick-me-up. Let them know how much you appreciate them.
Pick up litter. Cities can get dirty with garbage and litter, so take some time to pick up trash in your neighbor to beautify the city.
Give a gift card. If you have a friend who is working hard who may need a break, give them a gift card for dinner. It’ll be a great way to let them get out and enjoy a night on the town.
Donate blood. Donating blood is a great way to serve others. It’s something that doesn't take too long, but it saves lives.
Volunteer at a soup kitchen. Call the Shepherd Ministry Food Pantry to see if you can volunteer and serve those in our community.
