No matter what age you are, dating can be a stressful process that can take a lot out of you. Many people still struggle with understanding the nuances of dating or find it difficult to have fun on dates due to personal reasons. In this week’s Willington Lakes Phase 1 Blog post, we’ve got a few tips about how to get the most out of your dates and enjoy them more!
When people ask others on dates, it’s usually because they want to get to know them better. With that being said, how can you get to know someone if you’re not communicating with them? Be open with your date by answering questions they ask you and ask questions of your own. First dates can make it difficult to share more personal tidbits of information, so don’t feel pressured to answer anything you’re uncomfortable with. Over time, you can share deeper, more personal snippets of information.
Communication is also key before going on your date. If you’re the person who is doing the asking, communicate with the other person the date and time as well as the activity you intend on doing so they know how to appropriately dress. If you’re the one being asked on a date, be open and suggest date ideas that you would enjoy and don’t be afraid to ask what you’re doing!
Think of the Other Person
Dating can end up evolving into a selfish endeavor, especially during the early stages of the relationship. If you’re the one asking another on a date, think about activities that your date will enjoy. You don’t want to be enjoying yourself while your date is having a miserable time. Many people have a lot invested when they ask someone on a date, so assurance that you’re having a good time goes a long way in developing a well-rounded relationship.
Don’t be selfish in a relationship. Relationships are a two-way street and you’ll find greater happiness and success in a relationship where each person is taking care of the others’ needs. Expecting everything and giving nothing in a relationship is abusive to the other person, so be aware of that and avoid it at all costs!
Dates are supposed to be fun. Shed your inhibitions. You may not be fond of a particular activity, but try your best to enjoy the company of your date and the overall experience. Make the most of the time together. Laugh through things that go wrong. Even feelings don’t develop, you can still strengthen your friendship together!
